Sweet dreams Sweet Sandie

It is with a very heavy heart I must report the passing of our sweet Sandie, today at the age of 16. Sandie was an incredibly sweet dog that we rescued when she was 3 years old. We got her from a cat lady who had a couple dachshunds that she didn't really know how to manage.

Sandy barked nearly constantly and also was one who could not control her licker. We got her to do a lot less barking but the licking never really went away.

Sandie was always a favorite when guests came to our house because she would let anyone hold her and pat her. That's not something all of our dachshunds would allow.

This was the last time I gave Sandie a trim. She was real cooperative for the first hour. It was a big job. Her fur seem to grow in swirling directions which made it tough to do a smooth job. But she always seems so happy after it was done, somehow she was lighter.

Sandie was the last of the crew I refer to as the Big Four. From the right, Miss Peaches, Spaatz, Sandiepoo and Foozeball. They were the heart of our lives for a long time

Sandie has been doing pretty well despite being deaf and nearly blind.Just a few days ago she developed a slight cough that would only happen when I picked her up. Last night she ate her dinner but clearly wasn't feeling that well. I figured to take her to the vet this morning. This morning breathing had gotten pretty difficult and I knew what I had to do.This was just like when Spaatz went, only faster. I called the vet and they said I could come in anytime. I got my car warmed up. I wrapped her in a blanket and Jerry kissed her goodbye. As I gently brought her out to the car she let out a whelp, and she was gone. I was glad that I could hold her and be there for her and she didn't have to go through being scared at the vet. The vet I take the dogs to are very compassionate and kind and will take care of cremating her. Sweet dreams Sandie, I love you always.
