Maybe I should rename her Blackbeard

Blackbeard the Dachshund
Miss Peaches, now sometimes (more often than I'd like) is affectionately known as Blackbeard. For obvious reasons. Dachshunds are known to be diggers. They enjoy"going to the ground". When one sports a light colored coat however, its a bit of a problem. Not that if she were a black dog she wouldn't be having a date with the sink, and mind you this is not a light coating. No mere dusting here! This takes a lot of rinsing to get this out, and it just seems to keep coming. Plus it seems you might as well wash the whole dog because she's not as cooperative for spot washing. So currently she has three things she would like to excavate, the chipmunk in the stonewall, a mouse perhaps in the woodpile and something has been burrowing under the front stoop. Peach feels it is her job to eradicate these vermin and mind you I am all for dogs with jobs, but somehow I ended up on the clean-up crew. Once again.

Like Warm Fuzzy Pillows

Foozy-B
I've thought many times that the dogs are like warm fuzzy pillows with legs. They didn't originally sleep with me, but back when it was just Watson and Miss Peaches my daughter was away for the weekend Peach slept next to me because she always slept with Marlena. Then I'm not quite sure the series of events , but now I have our three miniatures sleeping cuddled up next to me. In a good way they make me think of an extended stay I had at the hospital 4 years ago. I was mostly paralyzed (temporarily). At night in an effort to make me as comfortable as possible the nurses would prop me up an stuff pillows on both sides of my body. That, along with a lot of drugs would get me through the night. Nowadays the dogs are warm fuzzy self-stuffing pillows. They are also self-adjusting, roll over and they reposition themselves. Fortunately none of these guys snore. Fooze will occasionally have a dream that will make him twitch and make this "whoop, whoop whoop" sound. A quick nudge fixes that. Plus if you wake from a bad dream there is quick access to a live "teddydog"to get back to sleep. Now, no matter the weather every night is a three dog night.

Unlikely Partners in Crime

Spaatzen and Miss Peaches

I'm not quite sure I totally understand the dynamics of their relationship. Peach on the one hand is the oldest, the alpha female, she does try to maintain her position. Spaatz is the youngster who is always giving her a hard time, but she's very patient with him and only occasionally does she really feel the need to let him know who's boss. Yet, that said she follows him into the yard after the squirrels and other woodland creatures like he's got an edge to this hunting thing.. They do a lot of sparring, which she enjoys, but sometimes wishes he would just go away. Over the weekend I gave Peachy her second shave of the warm season. It keeps her cooler and makes the ticks easire to see. I decided to do it in the bathroom, sitting on the floor with her. She is quite coopertive, but Spaatz wanted to be right there while I was doing it. Foozy our 3rd dachshund wanted no part of this activity and was hiding. Spaatz seemed to be concerned about his "girlfriend" and layed right next to her during the whole process. It seemed kinda sweet. He is sweet but a little dopey. Its a May December thing, but whose in charge keeps changing.
