Cloudy With A Chance of Dachshunds 2

Fooberschnozzen
So you wake up, and apparently the sun is hiding behind the clouds, because its not as bright as it would be ordinarily in your room. It's feeling particularly cozy because your dachshund(s) are all snuggled up on top of you. Your thinking, we're all so comfortable here and the sun's not even out, why spoil it, at least for a few more minutes. It's kind of the opposite of a snooze alarm, if you let yourself go back to sleep, it might be another hour before anyone might feel like moving. Maybe the sun will be out then too!
It's okay, I didn't need to get up just yet.

Gaspaatzo

Spaatz
If there is a way to have a non-traditional way to spell something, I'm on it. Just ask Foozeball.  Spaatz here, has been altered to Gaspaatzo, which is of course is incorporated into a little song I sing to him. He likes it anyway. Maybe I'll release it as a single some day and make millions. For now it's just for Spaatz, he doesn't seem to mind that I've changed his name so it sounds like the name of cold tomato soup. He just knows that he is the center of my attention for the moment, and that's all he really wants anyway.

Aww, Hot Dog!!

You know my Foozie boy is a sun worshipper, but this week as certainly put this to the test. Although he has still gone out and found himself a comfy spot on the lawn to lay out. He only lasts a few minutes and he's perfectly willing to head back into the house. We did have one day where it did top 100 degrees. I say you have to be nuts buddy. Hopefully next week it will not be so hot and he can keep his awesome tan going.
Roll your bod.

FOOZEBALL ROCKS HIS FOOTBALL SWEATER

Foozeball has the curse of being very handsome. Not a thing he can do about it, he's just a good lookin dude. He is a dog that can really rock a sweater or polo shirt. I got him this little sweater and it goes so well with his copper color. He is a dog that tends to look naked when he's not dressed. He will lick his armpits until there is no fur there, so I found keeping him in a shirt solves that problem. So he wears the sweaters this time of year, he's cool with it, and warm with the New York winter.

Foozeball a Derpy Dachshund?

They might have been thinking of Fooze when they conjured up the word. I mean, if you manage to get the name Foozeball instead of Oscar or Frank there is definitely something up. The guy is a nut, but look at that face. Sweet, if somewhat demented. One of the things I love about this guy is that when the evening comes and we're watchin a little TV, and the dogs are sacked out on me, Foozie will let me pat him and pretty much do anything to him. He just keeps on sleeping. In the photo I have him sitting up in whatever position, pose him, stroke his handsome face. He just sleeps. Peaches wants to left alone if she wants to sleep, Spaatz has to be under a blanket, even in summer. If I'm watching something real exciting I will find myself patting Fooze and playing with his ears A LOT. It's all good, he doesn't care, he just keeps zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
A little cranium scratching is good.

DACHSHUND HIDES FROM THINGS THAT GO BOOM!

Poor Foozie, the neighbor was shooting something off. I'm not sure what, a gun or fireworks, but it was pretty loud. So Fooze ran over to me, climbed up on my shoulder and stuck his head behind the pillow on the couch. He was quite concerned about it. My husband asked that they cease the racket, and they did, so Fooze could relax. I mean there wasn't any danger, they have 50 acres and you can't see the house while the leaves are on the trees, but it upset Fooze and put him into a bit of a panic. One of those cases of a dog afraid of something that won't hurt him, but when he should be afraid of something,( like confronting after deer) he's all bravado.

Mr. Sunshine

Fooze does Blue Steel
Just call him Sunshine, 'cause that's where he wants to be. Soakin' up the rays, as if it might add to his copper color. He'll be out there on the hot days, but he can't stay too long. That's why this time of year is great in the northeast. You can lay in the sun all day and not get too hot. I also keep strategically placed dog pillows about the house so they can move about as the sun moves and always have a cozy spot to lay down. It must be nice when your only concern is when to move to the next pillow.

Foozie wants to ride the Harley

Foozie might be up for a little daring-do. But first he needs a helmet and goggles. That's what all the cool dogs wear. The other day he rode with dad while he was mowing the grass, so now he thinks he can do it all the time. He was ready to go when he posed for this picture. He will follow dad to the ends of the earth. Mother says safety gear and something to hold onto, so he had to stay home. What a disappointment. He will have to be content to follow dad all around the yard and ride in the truck. Wanted: Riding helmet and goggles for dachshund-size small.

Dachshunds return home to New York

Fooze ready to roll
While the camping trip to Maine has been a big success for the dachshunds, they do seem real happy to be home. The eight hour trip back can be a little taxing on anyone. I may have to get one of those little screens to keep the dogs in the backseat. I don't mind them sitting with me part of the time, but after they have repositioned themselves several times to get comfortable I end up feeling rather trampled. And I look like it too. Its mostly the boys, but if you let one of them up front, they're all coming. Plus they all want to be ON me, at least partially. Next to me is not quite acceptable. Fooze also wants his head on the window edge. I can't imagine how many times I told them to get in the back. I'm not sure if its their memory or if their testing mine. Most likely they know I'm a big push-over for a cute face and they might just get away with it.

Foozeball's Word: Neurotic

Don't get me wrong, Foozie is a great dog. He's just a little anxious about things. The thing is dachshunds seem to have a phenomenal body clock. They know what time it is. We have a routine here, like feeding time and rest time, walkies etc. Well Fooze knows when these events are supposed to happen and if there might be a delay he may start to whine about it. It can tend to grate on ones nerves. This seems to be a very difficult behavior to correct. Fooze is a rescue and I don't know what happen prior to his coming here. When we first got him, he would try to bite you if you patted is rump. He actually has improved so much since we got him, except for the whining he is the easiest little dog to get along with. He also, although our dogs are very wary of strangers, will be the first to decide people are okay and sit on their laps, but he knows when its our usual bedtime, and if we don't get up and start getting ready for bed he will go in the kitchen and start to whine about it. He really just wants his bedtime biscuit.

Do you have a Stubborn Dachshund?

Foozie-B
Foozie is ordinarily a very cooperative dog, but there are times when I am calling him and he is clearly ignoring me. This will happen when my husband is around and Fooze wants to be his shadow. The other time is when he wants to sunbathe. He wants to lay on the black mulch in the garden. Unfortunately he has been laying on the flowers. When I go to get him he offers me the belly to pat instead of getting up. Of course I pat his chest for him, and adjust him so he's not on my seedlings.

Foozeball, a Perfect Dachshund Comma

Foozy-B
Don't you just love when your dachshund is curled up in a ball, kinda shaped like a comma. No one demonstrates this better than Foozy. He looks so sweet, like a little angel. Somehow I don't think I look that peaceful when I'm sleeping, still dreaming about jobs I had back in 1982. Ah, to be able to be a dog and actually appreciate the sweet set up you have. Not all dogs have it sweet I know, but one of the lucky dogs like mine.

Unlikely Partners in Crime

Spaatzen and Miss Peaches

I'm not quite sure I totally understand the dynamics of their relationship. Peach on the one hand is the oldest, the alpha female, she does try to maintain her position. Spaatz is the youngster who is always giving her a hard time, but she's very patient with him and only occasionally does she really feel the need to let him know who's boss. Yet, that said she follows him into the yard after the squirrels and other woodland creatures like he's got an edge to this hunting thing.. They do a lot of sparring, which she enjoys, but sometimes wishes he would just go away. Over the weekend I gave Peachy her second shave of the warm season. It keeps her cooler and makes the ticks easire to see. I decided to do it in the bathroom, sitting on the floor with her. She is quite coopertive, but Spaatz wanted to be right there while I was doing it. Foozy our 3rd dachshund wanted no part of this activity and was hiding. Spaatz seemed to be concerned about his "girlfriend" and layed right next to her during the whole process. It seemed kinda sweet. He is sweet but a little dopey. Its a May December thing, but whose in charge keeps changing.

Can You Guess Who Shredded the Dogbed??

Foozie and Spaatz
Can you guess which one of these handsome lads might of shredded the dog bed? They look so innocent don't they. Sweet Foozie on the left in red. The original troublemaker, still the go to guy if the trash has been gotten into, but has settled down a bit now that he's five years old. When we first got him he picked on Miss Peaches terribly, would bite her butt and yank on her ears . Now that he stopped, we got Spaatz. Spaatz, the new kid on the block since 2010, will be 2 in June. He currently terrorizes Miss Peachy, don't get me wrong, she can take care of herself. She enjoys sparring with him, he can be relentless though, then she'll get nasty with him and he backs off. He is the royal destroyer of anything that squeaks. Its his mission in life, this includes small woodland creatures, which he's only had a couple of close encounters with.
The Boys- Partners in Crime.
Now if your guess was Spaatz, you would be right. Spaatz does like to shred things, sometimes they don't even have to squeak. Now mind you the worst part, after cleaning up all the foam bits all over the kitchen is that I made this bed for them when I got a great deal on some 4" foam and made a cover from some bright outdoor fabric. He opened the velcro at the end and proceeded to bite little bits of foam out and send them strewing all over the place. It wasn't the welcome I had in mind when I walked through the door.

DACHSHUNDS MAKE THE WORLD A HAPPIER PLACE!

Miss Peachy, Spaatz and Foozer
It occurred to me while we were on our walk the other day that I was helping, by bringing the dogs out for a walk, I was brightening the day of people as they drove by and saw them. So many people had a big smile on their faces as they checked out the dogs as they passed. That was a nice feeling. Its  nice, when during your busy day you see something that just makes you smile, takes your mind off whatever for a moment. That's what Dachshunds can do, especially when you've got a bunch of them. Its a "Hey look at those wienerdogs moment". Most of my day is moments like that, so I am lucky, they're just great to have around. Have a happy Dachshund kind of day!

Foozie Turns Five!!

Mr Foozie turns 5. He's a really sweet dog, who started out as such a crazy boy. We got him from the SPCA. He really didn't like to be patted much when we got him, especially his back end. He would try to bite you if you attempted to pat his butt. I am happy to report that he now loves to be patted all over, and will in fact come nudge your hand to pat him if someone else is getting attention. He's the first to claim the prize spot on my lap while watching TV, because he knows that's the best place to be to get patted.Just goes to show what the right kind of love can do for a guy. Happy Birthday dude!

Happy St Patrick's Dogs!!

Its a little early I know, but you know you can't put any holiday off to the last minute. It all takes planning, some holidays more than others. Ya gotta hit the dollar store. Atleast to pick up your silly items to dress the Dachshunds in holiday attire. They don't mind too much, there are treats involved of course, little ones because its going to take more than one, especially with three dogs. Although Peaches likes "dress-up", head gear is not her favorite thing. Everyone decided to take this photo shoot laying down.
I hope everyone has a pleasant St. Patrick's day, not too pleasant though. You know it originally wasn't supposed to be a drinking holiday? In fact in Ireland its taken more seriously than people in the US do. That's what they said on NPR. I'm sure they have a few beers too. It actually commemorates the death of St. Patrick in 461. He is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland even though they kidnapped him and brought him to Ireland as a slave. He escaped, then went back, what a guy! And now they remember him forever.

Spring is about to Spring!!

Spring is definitely on its way, as the first Crocuses are signaling. This signal is lost to the pack, just returned from our walk. Feeling a little pooped are we? Fooze tends to be a little camera shy, hence the bowed head. Why would a dog not like having his picture taken? Its certainly not a bad hair day. Anyway we are looking forward to all the flowers that will be coming up and spending more time outside. Happy Spring!

Dinnertime For Foozeball!!

Sweet Foozy has this thing he does when he's anticipating something, mostly food. He spins around in circles. Its hard to capture it, but he does bring a new level to excitement when I come home and its time to eat. This video will gave you some idea why he is called Foozeball.
