I look down and I see my wiener!
I look down and see my wiener, and its on the floor. Since I am female I am awful glad that as I look under the bottom edge of my dress I see my favorite black and tan, dapple, with one blue eye, mini dachshund, Spaatz. Also known as Babyman, Goopey, Spaatzen, Spaatzle, Sputzie and probably a few other things. This is where he likes to sit when I am doing things in the kitchen. It's probably a combination of him feeling safe there and his guarding me. I am his person. Make no mistake about that. Spaatz and Miss Peachy are in cahoots and anyone who dare to challenge them can kiss their ankles goodbye.

Dachshund Tries to Attack the Moon
Good ole Spaatz, not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I gotta give him credit for trying. Last night I was letting the dogs out the back door, which lets out into a big open field. It's mowed short close to the house, then eventually it gets into taller grass then woods. Well he leads the charge, all three flat out running, barking, I can almost here a bugle playing. I then realize what they're going for. It's not a varmint of any sort. It's the Moon. It's this giant glowing saucer just appearing over the horizon. One thing dachshunds don't like is things that are out of place. That moon is not there all the time so it was deemed a threat to the homestead and treated accordingly. They got way out there until the grass was getting too tall for dachshunds to pass through easily. At that point he decided he had bitten off more than he could chew and Spaatz called the patrol off. Figured there was plenty to sniff on the way back, it would be several minutes before they mosyed back to the house.Wednesday, January 30, 2013
I just washed my hair and can't do a thing with it
Miss Peaches is a wire haired dachshund and being one has to deal with the beauty hazards of the wire hair. Here in NY winter is upon us, it hasn't been real severe ( although stinking cold last week) we've had a little snow here and there. This past Saturday we went to "the Farm" where I can let everyone run free but Rango the foster dog. Anyway they have a blast running around at high speed and its a big sniff-o-rama. Peachy disappeared under an old dump truck she had obviously been digging and her whole underside was muddy and stuck with old leaves and sticks. When we got home all the other dogs got a quick wipe down and I let them in. Miss Peachy after having the sticks and what not pulled out of her fur got carried in to the laundry room for a bath as you see her afterward waiting to be dried off. Sunday we went for a hike in the woods, she needed a quick wash after that too, not quite so much dirt but its the curly fur that not only attracts twigs and dirt but works like Velcro to hold onto it. Good thing she's coopertive in the tub.

Happy Houndowiener
Well its that time of year when we dress our wienerdogs in silly outfits for Halloween. So as not to disappoint anyone we'll start a little early with Spaatz in the ever popular skull and crossbones outfit flanked by Fall colors and other Halloween things. Good to get into the "spirit" early. Sorry.

CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF DACHSHUNDS
As all we dachshund owners know they are pretty much a fair weather dog. Although some snow can be fun, rain pretty much sucks. Not only do you get wet when you go outside, but there is no sunshine to lay in inside the house. No fun for walkies either. So that means we're most likely going to pester mom all day. Spaatz pictured here, will go under the chair and tug on my pants, or jam his head up between my knees and be staring at me, or just jump on my lap. Foozy will put his paws up on me in that kind of pleading way so I will pick him up. Peaches will makes her little "hhrrump" noise so she can sit with me. I try playing some inside ball, but that's mainly Spaatz's game. Today the boys are running amok around the house so at least they get their exercise. That's another good thing about small dogs is that they can get enough action inside, usually without breaking any furniture.

Can You Describe Your Dachshund With One Word?
I was thinking about this the other day, and it sure is a challenge to describe any dachshund with one word. If I had to with Spaatz the "Babyman" I would have to say goofball. I'm not sure if its a matter of maturity, since he is only 2 but he is very silly, and sweet. I guess only time will tell about that. Somehow I think that he may slow down but the part of him that is goofy will stay the same. Just look at that face, what's not to love?

Sometimes we just call him "stinky"
The ever popular unplanned washing of the dog. These events happen sometimes. Sometimes you catch it before it happens. If you see them sniffing around, then flop down on that spot all of the sudden. If you freak out loudly and quickly enough you can avert the problem. The other day I wasn't so fortunate. Spaatz was exploring in the backyard and when he came back to where I was sitting I took one look at him and announced "I have to wash the dog". My husband with no sense of smell asked" why, does he stink?". I could see very easily the back of his neck and shoulder were soiled with something, I wasn't even going to check. Straight into the sink with you. I did get a whiff when he was close, it was really awful. I scrubbed him up with some nice doggie shampoo and he was a new man, fairly glistened in the sunlight he did. Funny how he decided to make himself smell good and in the end he actually did.

AWESOME DACHSHUND PHOTOS!!
I suppose its awesome because its my dog, Well, so be it. I love that face, that blue eye on one side. He's a bit of a knucklehead, but he's very sweet. Maybe he'll grow out of it. Fooze did, kinda. He sleeps with his head on my shoulder, and sometimes if I let out a sigh he will too and that makes me smile.
