Got Dachshunds? Sleep with your mouth closed!

I don't think my dogs would do this or that I could possibly be this sound asleep, but just beware, keep your mouth closed when you sleep or you my get some nocturnal teeth cleaning.

Have a nice day!

She's so fluffy, I'm gonna die!

Miss Peaches and Spaatz
It can only mean that summer is winding down. I almost trimmed Miss Peaches again, but I held off and she is getting her fluffy wire haired coat back. I love it! It's not quite back to it's full glory, but soon she will be ready to face any weather a north eastern winter can throw at her. She loves to run around in the snow and stuff her head in the snow bank hoping there might be a critter there. Enough about snow, not in a hurry for that, but I do really like the fall. It's so pretty and the humid weather is gone, and that is OK with me. My Three Doxson's will be out for plenty of walks especially now that we don't have to worry about the heat. I hope I'm not speaking too soon, it's better for Peachy, she gets so worked up before we even go for a walk that she get's real hot in the summer. Gotta go for a walk now.

Basic Dachshund Equipment: The Harness

Miss Peaches, Spaatz and Foozer

A must have item for any dachshund owner is the harness. Dogs with long backs need to walked safely, and you don't want to tug on their necks and hurt them. We didn't realize at first when we had our first dachshund, Watson, until another dachshund owner mentioned it. It just makes sense, that way, if there is any pulling, either way, its on the whole dog, not just their neck. We got one for Watson and all our current dogs have them and we've never had problems. In fact the reason I brought this up is that Peaches and Fooze just got new ones and we took a good walk this morning to try them out. All went well. These new ones, which are like Spaatz's (he's the youngster) you can make them fit pretty custom, so there won't be any slipping off and there is no velcro to wear out. So get out there and walk them doggies, just get them the right gear.
Old harnesses, still haven't solved the tangled leash thing

Dachshund Postage

Boo Stamp
I put Miss Peaches on a postage stamp. When you get a letter with Miss Pookins on it, most likely its your birthday or some sort of special occasion. Naturally I had to cough up some extra dough for these, but they are clearly worth it. It's a glamour shot of a very sweet wirehair dachshund. She just jazzes up the mail and makes a special day just that much better.

A dog by any other name would smell..er..pretty much the same.

Pookins and the boys
As dogs go, these guys really don't stink, they are essentially inside dogs. Miss Peaches ends up getting washed almost every week because she is always getting into things. Yesterday she was digging for a critter, had to wash her beard out again. The boys don't work as hard at it, so they rarely get as dirty, but there are days we go for a walk and everyone is getting hosed off when we get back. Do their feet smell like Fritos? Well, I always said stale popcorn. Either is okay with me. I know some people that I wish their feet smelled like snack food, it would be an improvement.

All Creatures short and shorter

Dr Watson, Miss Peaches and Foozeball
There was a time when My Three Doxson's had a different lineup. We had Watson who was a standard wire hair, and who was the best dog we've ever had. Laid back, sweet, game for just about any adventure, a great hunter. He lived to be 13. We got Peaches a mini wire and eventually Foozie was rescued from the SPCA. I do recommend having more than 1 dachshund, its more fun for everyone involved. I will say that both my wire hairs bark less than the smoothies. My daughter has a couple long hair dachshunds which are great too. Whatever the size or coat type and so many color combinations be prepared to have more fun!

Gaspaatzo

Spaatz
If there is a way to have a non-traditional way to spell something, I'm on it. Just ask Foozeball.  Spaatz here, has been altered to Gaspaatzo, which is of course is incorporated into a little song I sing to him. He likes it anyway. Maybe I'll release it as a single some day and make millions. For now it's just for Spaatz, he doesn't seem to mind that I've changed his name so it sounds like the name of cold tomato soup. He just knows that he is the center of my attention for the moment, and that's all he really wants anyway.
