SHE'S A GREAT MOUSER TOO!!

Who needs a cat when you have a great mouser like Miss Peachy? I knew she was good with other vermin, snakes, chipmunks what have you, but yesterday she proved herself a great mouser. I knew we had a mouse here in my craftroom because I had a small bag of finch food that had been gotten into. Yesterday Peach was showing heavy interest in a box in the bottom of the closet. I was not really paying much attention when I realized she has ripped the side of the box off piece by piece. So I moved some stuff so I could drag the box out. I got it out, open it up and shut my mouth, there's a mouse! Peach dives in and the mouse ceases to be. She dropped it on the floor as requested and I discarded the carcass. I thought she was being silly, but she continued to lay in the closet. I could hear her rustling around every once in awhile. I called to her to give it a rest. When I went out to check on her there were 2 more dead mice laying there. Never one to give up when there's still work to be done. I was impressed. I cleaned up the bodies and I brushed her teeth, which she didn't like that much, but I figured it was a good idea. With cool weather coming its is nice to know I have any extra ally in the fight against small borders.Peaches the wirehaired dachshund mouser extraordinaire.

Consider the Wirehair

The next time you might be thinking to yourself " I need to get me a dachshund", consider the wirehair I say. You won't regret it. I myself have only had two but they are the sweetest and by far the most laid-back dachshunds I have ever had. My first, Watson was my best dog ever. We miss him still. Miss Peaches is awesome too, and so many people are unaware of the wirehair coat that they are quite the conversation piece. You will most likely need to search a little harder for the elusive wirehaired dachshund, but they are worth it. Don't get me wrong I adore my smoothies, but if you get the chance the wirehair is a little extra special.

Sooo Jealous!!

BFF
These guys can be the best of friends, and yet they can be so jealous of each other if there is any attention being given here. If I'm patting Spaatz the next thing I know Fooze will come over and give my arm a good nudge letting me know he is here and would also like to be patted. Then its vice-versa for Spaatz. The real challenge is when Miss Peaches enters the picture. Then you have to get a little creative and pat two dogs at once. Use of the forearm on one while patting with the hand. Patting dogs is good for you, and I like things like that, its not even fattening.

Do your Dachshunds "Skip to my Lou"?

Do your dogs "skip to my Lou"? Both Spaatz and Fooze do. Meaning, they skip using one of their back feet while walking. With Spaatz its the right and Fooze its the left. Miss Peaches does not do this, she does the "double footin". That's another story. You can see Spaatz do this clearly on our morning walk,With Fooze its a little tricky, he's all over the place. He insists on being over the white line and you have to keep pulling him over as we have no sidewalks and not to much shoulder. We are on our way to a farm down the road where we can let them run like crazy. Its like a doggie amusement park. The can't get enough.

EVERYDAY IS A TRIPLE DOG DARE

Everyday is a triple dog dare day here. Of course we wouldn't have it any other way. They dare you to resist them because they know you cannot. Ohh! people will exclaim. Look at the wiener dogs! They are so cute! Look into their brown eyes, or in Spaatz's case you will look at the blue one and next thing you know you will be patting their heads, then its the belly rubs, and all is lost. You are at the mercy of the irresistableness of the long dog know as the dachshund.

Foozie wants to ride the Harley

Foozie might be up for a little daring-do. But first he needs a helmet and goggles. That's what all the cool dogs wear. The other day he rode with dad while he was mowing the grass, so now he thinks he can do it all the time. He was ready to go when he posed for this picture. He will follow dad to the ends of the earth. Mother says safety gear and something to hold onto, so he had to stay home. What a disappointment. He will have to be content to follow dad all around the yard and ride in the truck. Wanted: Riding helmet and goggles for dachshund-size small.

Dachshunds return home to New York

Fooze ready to roll
While the camping trip to Maine has been a big success for the dachshunds, they do seem real happy to be home. The eight hour trip back can be a little taxing on anyone. I may have to get one of those little screens to keep the dogs in the backseat. I don't mind them sitting with me part of the time, but after they have repositioned themselves several times to get comfortable I end up feeling rather trampled. And I look like it too. Its mostly the boys, but if you let one of them up front, they're all coming. Plus they all want to be ON me, at least partially. Next to me is not quite acceptable. Fooze also wants his head on the window edge. I can't imagine how many times I told them to get in the back. I'm not sure if its their memory or if their testing mine. Most likely they know I'm a big push-over for a cute face and they might just get away with it.
