At my house a stuffed toy has about a 5 minute life span. The the stuffing is out, and the squeaker has been removed like the heart of a wild animal and has been neutralized so that it won't make that noise anymore. Even though he likes the noise. I am speaking of Spaatz, he has a high play drive and need to chew things. I am happy to report that he does confine his chewing to toys and dog approved bones. Good thing, I once had a Labrador that destroyed a really nice dining room set with her chewing. Spaatz here has a set of teeth though, I have yet to find a toy that squeaks, including Kong toys that he can't destroy. Shredding little bits of rubber all over, or stuffing and fuzz rolling around like tumble weeds. I wouldn't bother, but it makes him so happy to get something. Hard to resist making the kids happy.

Rango Project Winding Down
![]() |
| Rango, Spaatz and Foozy |
He was listed in the local paper over the weekend and some people came to see him. They are people who had a long hair dachshund for many years. I am so glad that some dachshundists will be taking him. He will do well, he really is a good boy and there, he will get ALL the love, which will make him happy. The End.

Do You Sleep with Dachshund(s)?
I know a lot of people sleep with their dachshunds. I will admit, I sleep with my three. I have seen quite a bit about other people who do, but I wondered if its as wide-spread as it seems. I didn't use to, my first dachshund, Watson slept on the couch at the foot of our bed, he did snore a bit too. Anyway we got my daughter a mini wire hair, she slept with the dog from day one. When she was away, Peaches ended up sleeping with me. Long story short, six years later I now sleep with three, including the Peach. Spaatz is my tummy warmer who often sleeps with his head on my shoulder. Peach will get under the covers by my legs then get back out, come up by my head, go under again, go down by my legs then shortly will get back out and sleep on top of the covers. Happens every night. Fooze will just get in and kinda dissappear, note that if you get up for anything the space you were in will not be there when you get back, so you may have to do a little dog shifting to get back in. One thing for sure you won't be cold, at my house every night is a three dog night. Friday, February 15, 2013
REALLY Peaches??
I know that nothing Peaches does now should come a surprise, but she did it again the other day. The ground is showing again under the snow, and I could see as she was sacheting back to the house she had stuff in her beard again. No problem, I thought they were bark chips from the garden. As she gets to the door I stop her to clean her up. Nope, the stuff hanging off her face are bird feathers. Lovely, such a sweet face, never know what it will be next.

Snow higher than a dachshunds back
While Miss Peaches may appear to have no head, its actually just stuffed in the snow. Peaches being a wire hair quite enjoys the snow and will stuff her head into the snow to see what she might come up with. Usually nothing, but she can be quite determined and will often turn herself into quite the snow bunny. Our last storm was a good one, we got about 14 inches as near as I can figure with all the drifting. It was definitely higher than a dachshunds back. I had to keep going out and digging little trenches so the dogs could go out. I kept it pretty good until the night when all was lost and there were no trenches to be seen in the morning. I had to start all over, if I'd let them out without digging they would have taken one step and about disappeared. When they did get out they loved running around, it was like a big habitrail for dogs.

Rango's Assimilation
As one can witness from the photo, Rango (piebald longhair) has been assimilated into the pack. It took a little while. There was strong opposition from Miss Peaches in particular. Our resident wire hair did not welcome the uncouth new comer. She is the leader here and had to assert herself. Spaatz, the black and tan dapple didn't like him at first, but soon hashed it out and they now are tearing up the floor boards here chasing each other around. Foozeball, the red, now plays with Rango too, which is cool because playing hasn't been his thing so much, but now the three boys really go for the gusto sparring with each other. I'm glad they're small dogs or I would likely have some broken furniture. When Rango finds his forever home they might even miss him.
