I Thought They were Dachshunds But,.....

It turns out that they are North American Cheesehounds. Their noses can hone in on all types of cheese from great distances. They can hear the crinkle sound of a package containing cheese from at least 2 rooms away. Their long low bodies are perfect for getting to any cheesy morsel that may have gotten out of the range of any larger breed. They also come equipped standard with extremely cute faces that renders their owner defenseless so they will relinquish the cheese without a struggle. It is unwise to look at the photo too long, you may find yourself running to the kitchen to find some cheddar to give to the nearest lowrider dog.

The RANGO Project

Rango, long haired dachshund, close to standard size
The SPCA called us to see if we would foster a dachshund they had there for a while. They called him Rambo because he was mean and tried to bite many people. We checked him out. I figured he was just terrified. In this small room in a cage, about 10 other dogs barking constantly. We brought him home, I figured we'd call him Rango, you know, stranger in a strange place. At first he was so scared. Hiding under the dining room table, peed himself. I was shocked that within 2 hours he started to transform. He remembered his inner dachshund, running around, tail wagging, playing. It hasn't been a total miracle, he has some issues, food aggression, possessiveness. Trying to work through those things now. Oh yeah, he's a trash hound. I am struck by how we've been able to improve his life in a night and day fashion and he has responded quicker than I could have expected. We're trying and he's trying too and hopefully he'll get a furever home someday, he can be real sweet, he just needs the right people to give him a chance.

Dachshund Adventure: NY to Florida and back

Hello! It's been awhile, but we're back in the Empire state again. Went to the sunshine state for the holidays. I must say the dogs were really good. I can't complain. We got stuck in some terrible traffic on the way down, in the car for 15 hours. Here they are in the Subaru we put on the road the day before we left, ready for another 1000 mile ride. They slept most of the time, although in Pennsylvania they were up and were bugging us for something. I checked the time, 5:05, oh excuse me didn't hear the tummy alarm. I did get them a special dog bed that is heated and pressure sensitive. I can plug it into the wall or the lighter in the car and its only on when they get on it. They liked that on the way home as it was very cold as we got back. It was their Christmas present, probably the best gift I ever got them, practical too. Happy holidays everyone

Christmas Turkey Dogs

Happy Holidays everyone!! My Three Dachshunds wish all a special holiday season. We will be on the road so you may hear from us while traveling. Hopefully the only turkey dogs you encounter will be under the table pining for a bit of real turkey. Don't get me wrong, I do actually like turkey dogs, but for Christmas we hoping for something a little extra special. We will be getting together with my daughter so we should have some photos of all six dachshunds together. It doesn't get much more fun that that. Ho Ho Ho!!

FOOZEBALL ROCKS HIS FOOTBALL SWEATER

Foozeball has the curse of being very handsome. Not a thing he can do about it, he's just a good lookin dude. He is a dog that can really rock a sweater or polo shirt. I got him this little sweater and it goes so well with his copper color. He is a dog that tends to look naked when he's not dressed. He will lick his armpits until there is no fur there, so I found keeping him in a shirt solves that problem. So he wears the sweaters this time of year, he's cool with it, and warm with the New York winter.

DACHSHUND DOMINO'S

Well this is why you need more than one dachshund. Its so they always have a warm place to put their head. This was sweet, all lined up putting their head on the next dog. You might think Spaatz has no place to put his head, but usually they will form a pile that will give everyone a warm spot to rest the noggin. I think in this case they were hoping we might be going for walkies and were queing up, but got a little tired waiting.

Just call me Peaches of the morning

Sweet, sweet Miss Peaches. Here she is first thing in the morning all ready to have her belly rubbed. Not that she's not ready most of the day. Except while she's eating or hunting. She is quite serious about both matters and belly rubbing at the time would be a distraction, but first thing in the morning belly rubs are at the top of the priority list. Along with back rubs, chin scratching, around the ears and top of the head. You get the picture, its pretty much an all out full body massage for the Peach. On most days I'm only too happy to oblige because..SHE'S SO FLUFFY!!
