Foozies got a new shirt. He used to wear shirts all the time. It all started when we got him from the SPCA. He had this rash that he would scratch and lick at all the time under his armpits of his front legs. He would make it rough and irritated. So I had him wear a shirt, treating the skin underneath. It worked great and he stopped itching at it and the skin got better. We were able eventually to take the shirt off for a long while. Just recently he started scratching again, perhaps something with the warm weather. He needed a new shirt because Spaatz destroyed his old polo's when he was wearing them. That's just Spaatz, destuctoboy. Anyway Fooze is looking pretty dapper in his new shirt so I had him stand in the garden and look sweet for me.

Dachshund IS a Bird Dog
I have been trying to tell Spaatz that he's not a bird dog. Over and over I tell him "no birds", you are a Dachshund. You are a scent hound, you have a height challenge so you can keep your nose to the ground and find things that way. Well today he proved me wrong. Along with Miss Peachy they got themselves a house sparrow today. I'm not sure how it started, but the bird was just running away from them. They chased it all about the yard, flushed it out of the woodpile, then they caught it. Peachy brought it in the house, my husband tossed it back out after she dropped it . Then Spaatz finished it. So they proved that even a Dachshund can be a bird dog. It just goes to show- aim high, you never know what you can do.
Don't feel bad for the sparrow, they are a non-native, invasive species which is considered the worst event in the history of American ornithology was the introduction of the English
Sparrow. I'm quoting here. We don't like them because they take over Bluebird nest boxes, and will even go in and peck the Bluebird's brains out. They're pretty nasty. So today the dogs performed a service.

Call Mike Rowe - Dachshund Has A Dirty Job
Miss Peachy has been getting a bit of air time lately, but that's only because she is quite a character. She was this frightened little dog when we got her, but she has found her inner Dachshund and she is the mighty hunter. In this video she demonstrates her absolute determination to find and voles that might be lurking in their subterranean lair. She is not going to let a little mud get in her way and is using her mouth as a shovel. I regret to report she didn't find any critters so all she ended up getting was a serious dousing with a hose.

Shave The Peach
Its getting rather warm here in NY so I decided to go ahead and "Shave the Peach" a little earlier than usual. Miss Peachy seems get fuzzier every year, but we always give her the puppy cut when it gets warm. She tends to get warm going on walks (and she loves her walkies) so this helps. They're also saying its going to be a bad tick year so the shorter fur makes it so much easier to see them on her.So she's going to feel better all around. I do hope we do get somewhat of a Spring and not jump into Summer straight away, especially in March.

Happy St Patrick's Dogs!!
Its a little early I know, but you know you can't put any holiday off to the last minute. It all takes planning, some holidays more than others. Ya gotta hit the dollar store. Atleast to pick up your silly items to dress the Dachshunds in holiday attire. They don't mind too much, there are treats involved of course, little ones because its going to take more than one, especially with three dogs. Although Peaches likes "dress-up", head gear is not her favorite thing. Everyone decided to take this photo shoot laying down.
I hope everyone has a pleasant St. Patrick's day, not too pleasant though. You know it originally wasn't supposed to be a drinking holiday? In fact in Ireland its taken more seriously than people in the US do. That's what they said on NPR. I'm sure they have a few beers too. It actually commemorates the death of St. Patrick in 461. He is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland even though they kidnapped him and brought him to Ireland as a slave. He escaped, then went back, what a guy! And now they remember him forever.

Don't Hate me because I'm Beautiful
Miss Dirty Feet Again, a photo by batterie61 on Flickr Ahh, Miss Peachy, she has quite the pose going on here, all she REALLY wants is her tummy rubbed. Unfortunately for her she is about to get a bath because she has been out trouncing around in the mud in the backyard. I know we have had very little snow this winter, but we have had plenty of rain starting before the hurricanes that hit the northeast last fall. She just manages to find it or look for it. On our walk this morning she explored a drainpipe that needed a quick run through. My theory is its a wirehair thing. My old wirehair was the same way, but my two smoothies are not. Fooze in particular will tippy toe around the puddles while Peach cruises through. I might as well stay used to it, I aim to find another wirehair. This can be a tall order, but on I aim to fill.
